Hannah's Web Site

Having fun at home!

Welcome to Hannah's Web Page.
Hannah Jayne Catherine Young was born on July 18, 2001.

On June 28th, 2002, at 11 months old, Hannah was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). She was immediately admitted to the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario for treatment. She received chemotherapy over the next 10 months, and finished the standard protocol in April of 2003. We enjoyed 3 months at home, but Hannah relapsed with leukemia in July 2003, the day before her second birthday.

Luckily, an unrelated stem cell donor was found ? a perfect 10 out of 10 match. Hannah spent over a year in hospital recovering from her stem cell transplant. Throughout that time she continued to fill our days with laughter, and amaze us with her courage and strength despite the experience she had endured.

Hannah earned her angel spirit on Feb 3, 2005.
We miss her every day.

It is time for a semi-annual update in honour of Hannahís 12th birthday. It is hard to imagine that we became proud parents 12 years ago tonight. Hannah was an awesome baby, and made us proud many times more during her short life.

We often had little parties with Hannah when we were at home. Cathy would make a dessert, and we would light candles, and sing Happy Birthday to someone. We tried to celebrate something almost every day. I canít honestly say that we are sad that Hannah spent every one of her birthdays in the hospital, because everybody went out of their way to make it a great experience for her. For that we are grateful.

Today we had a barbeque after a very hot summer day. Actually, it is a hot summer week. We arenít getting much gardening or farm work done in this weather. Cathy picked lots of beans tonight after a brief shower cooled things down. Iím waiting patiently for the wheat to be harvested. Every night we have a brief shower, but not enough to help the corn and soybeans. Overall things look good.

Everybody is healthy around here. We took a week off in July to spend with Cathyís family at Bruce Beach. We even spent a week in Florida back in March. The spring planting season went well, and Cathy has a very big garden this summer.

Thanks again for remembering Hannah today.
